MTNA Competitions: General Information

The purposes of the Music Teachers National Association performance competitions are to provide educational experiences for students and teachers and to recognize exceptionally talented young artists and their teachers in their pursuit of musical excellence. The Pennsylvania state competition is the first level of the MTNA competitions and all state competitions are considered the primary educational level.

2025 Performance Competitions

The 2025 Pennsylvania state MTNA performance competitions will take place on Sunday, November 9, 2025 at Messiah University in Mechanicsburg, PA.  Applications open in August for all categories and levels must be submitted online at the MTNA website prior to Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Chamber Music, Brass, and Voice applications open Nov. 1, 2025. Deadline for Chamber Music (Wind and String), Senior Performance (Brass and Voice), Young Artist (Brass and Voice) registration and video submissions to Acceptd is December 3, 2025, 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time. There will be no exceptions.

Composition Competitions

Applications open in August 2025 for Composition and must be submitted online at the MTNA competition website prior to Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time.  There will be no exceptions.
