PMTA Call for Commissioned Composer

Nominations are now open for PMTA’s 2025 Commissioned Composer. Preference will be given to composers who are either a resident of or employed professionally in Pennsylvania. These are anonymous nominations so please do not indicate to the composer that they have been nominated.

Please submit the composer’s name, bio, website and/or any musical examples to Henry Wong Doe hwongdoe@iup.edu by March 8, 2024.

Call for Clinicians!

Call for Clinicians – Due February 29, 2024
The Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association’s state conference planning committee invites you to submit a proposal for the 2024 State Conference. This year’s conference theme is “Head to Heart: Celebrating the Power of Musical Connections” and will be held in person on June 14-16, 2024 on the campus of Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. College students are invited to apply!

The deadline for submissions is February 29, 2024.
For consideration, please e-mail the following to both co-conference chairs:

General Sessions

  • A one-page proposal outlining the proposed session for a 50-minute session.
  • A 100-word or less description of the proposed 50-minute session.
  • A one-page biography and 50-word biography of each of the proposed
    presenter(s).
  • A color photo of each proposed presenter.

College students (open to students currently enrolled in a music program anywhere in the country)

  • A one-page proposal outlining the proposed session for a 25-minute session.
  • A 100-word or less description of the proposed 25-minute session.
  • A one-page biography and 50-word biography of each of the proposed
    presenter(s).
  • A color photo of each proposed presenter.

All components listed above must be sent to Maria Asteriadou and Melody Quah no later than February 29, 2024.

All will receive notification that their proposal was received by February 29,
2024. Notifications of acceptance will be sent during the week of March 18, 2024. As you are preparing your proposal, please check the PMTA website for information about our concert artist, masterclass artist, and keynote speaker Artina McCain.

2023: Please join us for our 2023 IN PERSON Annual Conference from June 2-4 on the campus of The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, State College, PA.  Our theme is “Past, Present and Future; Rediscovering our past to nurture our musical future.” We are excited to welcome concert pianist Gilles Vonsattel and presenter/ master class specialist Leah Claiborne, who serves in the role of DEI for the Frances Clark Center.  We are also thrilled to welcome Gary L. The deadline for presentation submissions is February 28, 2023. There will be more information to follow regarding early bird registration for the conference, lodging, and the schedule.  Registration will open on February 28, 2023.  The deadline to apply to perform in the Masterclass is May 1, 2023.   We hope to see you at PSU!!
